Jamkam is starting her second year at Warm Heart. She has made this her home and has lots of friends. She’s a good mentor to the younger children and is always ready to offer her help when needed.

Like many of our kids, Jamkam is Karen, but Karen from Burma where a bitter war of ethnic cleansing has raged for decades, forcing millions to flee.

She is from Tung Haa village here in Phrao, but is a mouth too many in her family. Her father is gone and her mother is an unskilled day laborer. Warm Heart has given Jamkam, her mother and her sister hope.

This girl has a brilliant smile. She loves to play volleyball with her friends, but also loves to read and draw cartoons. She is working hard on her English.

Recent Report Card

Jamkam just completed first term of 9th grade with a solid GPA 3.05. She also earned 3 A’s! She showed talent in Art, Sport, and Health! She is looking into vocational programs for high school next year

Michael’s Observations:

Ying Jamkam is one of our three Yings, each of whom is known in part by her proper name just so we can tell them apart when talking about them. (There is no mistaking them when looking at them!) This Ying is quiet and a bit shy in public, but has a huge smile and a lot of self-confidence when the spotlight is on her. Adjan Shafer recently met with all of the M.3 students (9th graders) who must decide in the next months whether to go on to high school or vocational school. In addition to reviewing their grades and family issues, he talked to them about their futures, hopes and possibilities. Ying declared loud and clear that she wants to be a chef and travel around ASEAN cooking at different 5-star, multinational hotels. It was great to have a child who had a real dream and who had done lots of research about what it would take to realize it.
