2016
Jangum is a bundle of barely restrained energy. She is an in-your-face kid who is smart and a smart-ass.
Her older sister is a goody-two-shoes super student at a top flight vocational-technical school studying computers.
We are doing our best to keep Jangum on her sister’s side of the line. We’re pretty sure we’ll win, but only with constant vigilance.
During a recent flu epidemic, she slowed her motor down and was a big help, and when guests and new volunteers arrive she is always ready to guide people around. (Shy she is not.)
We have big plans for this energetic little extrovert.
2015 – Journey to Warm Heart
Jangum is the youngest of four siblings at Warm Heart, all the children of Khun Wan, manager of Warm Heart’s coffee demonstration farm in Lau Wu. (Her older sister Fang just set off for boarding school after two years at Warm Heart and her two older brothers live at the Warm Heart Annex.
Her father manages Warm Heart’s coffee nursery in the village of La Wu.
La Wu is a small village on the Thai-Myanmar border known for violence and its location on a drug-trafficking route.
Knowing his children were in danger in La Wu, in 2012 Jangum’s father asked that she, her older sister Fang, and her older brother Poon be given spots at the Children’s Home.
Today
Since arriving at Warm Heart, Jangum has excelled in school, particularly learning English. She is among the best English speakers and loves chatting with the volunteers.
She says the volunteers are her favorite part of living at the Children’s Home.
Jangun loves swimming, playing with her friends, and reading.
She hopes someday to speak multiple languages.
She looks up to Nit, one of Warm Heart’s college students, and someday will attend university like Nit.
